RCR arquitectes 1988-2017

Voluntariamente alejados de la atención mediática, desde su retirado estudio en Olot, los ganadores de la última edición del Premio Pritzker llevan tres décadas desarrollando una arquitectura tan radical en su lenguaje como anclada al lugar y comprometida con la naturaleza. Con motivo de la concesión del prestigioso galardón —que hasta ahora solo había logrado un español, Rafael Moneo, en 1996—, la editorial Arquitectura Viva presenta RCR arquitectes. 1988-2017, un único volumen de 240 páginas, encuadernado con tela, en tapa dura y en edición bilingüe español-inglés, que reúne 40 de las principales obras del estudio, entre ellas algunas tan personales y sugerentes como el Parque de Piedra Tosca, la Casa Horizonte, el restaurante Les Cols o las bodegas Bell-lloc, todos ellos en Cataluña —mayoritariamente en la comarca gerundense de La Garrotxa—, y recoge también las construidas fuera de España, como el Museo Soulages y el centro La Cuisine en Francia, o el crematorio de Hofheide y la mediateca de Waalse Krook en Belgica. Los textos de Luis Fernández-Galiano, Richard Ingersoll, Carlos Jiménez, William Curtis y Josep Maria Montaner ayudan a interpretar, desde cinco diferentes perspectivas, la arquitectura esencial y provocadora que ha llevado a Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem y Ramon Vilalta a lograr el máximo reconocimiento de la profesión.

Shunning the spotlight by choice, from their outlying studio of Olot, the laureates of this year's Pritzker Prize have worked together for thirty years developing an architecture that is radical in its language yet anchored to its context and committed to nature. On the occasion of the concession of this prestigious award – which until now only one Spaniard had received, Rafael Moneo in 1996 –, Arquitectura Viva presents 'RCR arquitectes. 1988-2017', a 240-page volume in cloth hardcover and fully bilingual Spanish-English edition. The book includes 40 of the studio's most important works, including suggestive and personal ones like Pedra Tosca Park, Horizonte House, Les Cols Restaurant and the Bell-lloc Winery, all in Catalonia – and most of them in the region of La Garrotxa –, and also completions outside Spain, like the Soulages Museum and La Cuisine Centre in France, or the Hofheide Crematorium and Walse Krook Media Library in Belgium. Essays by Luis Fernández-Galiano, Richard Ingersoll, Carlos Jiménez, William Curtis and Josep Maria Montaner help to interpret, from five different perspectives, the essential and provocative architecture that has earned Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta the most prominent architectural distinction.
